Karas is Dr. Gori's "right hand". He's called (Ra,   ラー?, Rā) in the the original, Japanese version of Spectreman.

Subtitle: (Space Ape-man,   宇宙猿人?, Uchū enjin)

History[]

A soldier from planet E, he helped facilitate Gori's escape from his sentence. In return, the mad ape scientist took the soldier into his thrall as his loyal servant. While strong, he's not very bright, often bungling even simple assignments Gori sends him on.

Karas is exceptionally strong, though whether this is normal for soldiers of Planet E is unknown. With his bare hands, he's able to break every single bone in a human's body, able to rend them literally limb from limb. He can take blows that would injure, even kill, a regular human, and dish it right back five fold. His head is hard enough to break a heavy wooden beam in half, and he can smash a large stone with his bare hands. He's also armed with explosive discs with the force of a hand grenade, and is proficient with several weaponry. In the manga, he's able to take the hair from his head and use them as darts.

Throughout his career in Gori's employ, he's often been used as an advanced scout to survey the area, sometimes disguised to spy the humans, and control the monsters from the ground. When not in the field, he's often helping Gori with his twisted experiments in making pollution monsters and weapons. A handful of times, he's faced Spectreman directly, but each time he's met with defeat at the hands of the alien cyborg hero. In their last confrontation, he was augmented with the reflexes and skills of a champion boxer, but was still defeated, and killed, at the hands of Spectreman.

The lose of Karas would be a major and definitive blow to Gori, who has seen all his plans ruin, his monster army defeated, now the loss of one he consider a friend, despite the way he treated Karas for his bumbling idiocy, was too much for the demoralize scientist to, Afterwards, Gori commits suicide by jumping off a cliff with a bomb in hand despite Spectreman's attempts to talk to him and use his genius for good.

Personality[]

Personality-wise, he's the archetypical henchman: Devoted completely to Dr Gori's ambition and is never wavering in his loyalty and faithfulness to Gori and his cause for world domination, despite all the insults and put-downs he often suffers from Gori due to his ignorance. He also has something of a rivalry going on with Spectreman, having faced the cyborg hero several times and never beating him, even when giant size and he was tearing Tokyo apart with his bare hands. He also seems to have a weakness for attractive young human women.

Abilities[]

  • Super Strength: Having been a former soldier in the "E" Army before, Karas is a capable fighter, and with an unquestionable strength to boot his talent, famously seeing when he smacked a car off the road and over a cliff in Ep3, killing the couple in it.
  • Disguises: Karas, despite been an ignorant brute, he is a surprisingly a true master of disguises. At first just wearing clothing without covering his face, he was able to fool and walk among humans without noticing what he was until it was too late, though as the series progress, his talent excels, able to even disguise his voice and properly wear masks.
  • Enhance Sight: In Ep.21, when facing the Possess body of Ranger Shelly, he used in depth Enhance vision to see the image of Alien Zuno been the one operating it.
